Farmer’s Market Handprint Tote Bag

There’s something extra special about a handmade gift from little hands. This year, we made the sweetest “farmers market” inspired tote bags for Mother’s Day using handprints, footprints, paint, and a little creativity, and they turned out even cuter than I imagined.

These personalized tote bags are practical, meaningful, and filled with the kind of imperfect charm only toddler-made gifts can bring.

A Keepsake You Can Actually Use

I wanted to make something that felt:

  • Meaningful
  • Simple enough for toddlers
  • Useful beyond the holiday
  • Full of childhood memories

These canvas tote bags checked every box.

We transformed tiny handprints and footprints into fruits and vegetables:

  • Strawberries
  • Corn
  • Fingerprint blueberries
  • Raddish
  • Carrots
  • Blueberries
  • Even a little avocado!

Each bag became its own tiny farmers market masterpiece.

What We Used
  • Plain canvas tote bags – Hobby Lobby
  • Washable acrylic paint or fabric paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Baby wipes and paper towels
  • Paint markers for details

How We Made Them

We painted little hands and feet one color at a time and pressed them onto the bags to create different fruits and vegetables.

After the prints dried, I added simple details with paint markers:

  • Strawberry seeds
  • Carrot tops
  • Radish tops
  • Avocado pits

The process was messy, playful, and surprisingly manageable with my toddler and baby.

Why I Love Handprint Crafts

Handprint crafts always feel like freezing time for a moment.

One day these tiny prints won’t be tiny anymore.

I love creating gifts that family members will actually pull out and use (grocery trips, library runs, farmers markets) while carrying around a little piece of childhood with them.

Easy Ways to Personalize This Gift

You could also add:

  • Child’s name and year
  • “Fresh from the garden”
  • “Picked with love”
  • “Grandma’s Farmers Market Crew”
  • Favorite fruits and vegetables
  • Matching recipe cards inside the tote

We paired ours with homemade cards and a bouquet of flowers, and it made such a sweet and heartfelt Mother’s Day gift.

The Sweetest Part

My favorite part wasn’t the finished tote bag.

It was watching tiny painted hands proudly stamp strawberries and corn onto canvas while talking about who would receive them.
